Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher

Job Description:

Reed Education is seeking a dedicated Breakfast and Afterschool Club Assistant to join our team for a school in Lambeth. This role involves assisting in the daily operations of the Breakfast and Afterschool Club, supervising and caring for children both indoors and outdoors, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide full care for children, including receiving them from parents or carers, and safely delivering them to and from school.
  • Supervise pupils before and after school, ensuring activities are conducted safely and in accordance with the club manager’s instructions.
  • Assist in delivering additional activities such as dance or drama club as directed.
  • Implement the school’s behaviour policy to maintain order and provide positive play experiences.
  • Address any instances of unruly or unsocial behaviour in line with the school Behaviour Policy.
  • Report and respond to any injuries or sickness, administer basic first aid, and maintain records in the first aid book.
  • Manage cleanliness and tidiness of the eating and play areas.
  • Participate in administrative tasks, record keeping, and providing feedback to parents.
  • Ensure all children are safely delivered to their classes at the start of the school day.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Childcare and Development/Play Work (desirable).
  • Food Hygiene Certificate and/or experience in food handling (desirable).
  • First Aid Certificate (desirable).
  • Experience interacting with children aged 3 and over (essential).
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging play opportunities for children aged 3 and over (essential).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and Safeguarding Children practices (essential).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team (essential).
  • Commitment to equality and ability to work inclusively with parents/carers, school staff, and the local community (essential).
